Palimpsest of Phantasm: An imaginary art garden vol. 5 Saito Yuki

“The countless illusions spun by artists and accumulated since ancient times will coexist in a complex way that overlaps and stimulates each other, and will continue to writhe and transform forever without stopping.
And they will continue to alter reality, shaking our stalemated daily lives.”

Multi-layered glass paintings artist, copperplate etcher

In Saito Yuki’s copperplate prints such as “Hole” and “Group 2,” which were created by collecting countless dead moths and randomly accumulating them, the dry darkness shrouded by the cruelty of death is scattered or condensed. Perhaps because this eccentric printmaker was so intent on the material “life after death,” his images evoke the flashing of beauty that is strangely powerful in its silence.

In his fantasy works with simple compositions, such as “Mountain Edge: Overlook” and “Rabbits Playing with Blackboards,” in which a group of linear objects resembling waste are aggregated, the presence of a certain powerful magnetic field, that is, an invisible force, is suggested. On the other hand, in works such as “Horizon,” which deals with a grand vision on a cosmic scale, the vectors of deconstruction and creation are intricately intertwined, showing an inseparably intertwined force. In these works, the omens of destruction and collapse, while stirring up anxiety, are married in an astonishing and terrifying way to the brilliance of creation.
